Dental Crown | after RCT | Yes ?|No ?|Dr. Abi Negi
Is a dental crown after a root canal treatment (RCT) REQUIRED?
A dental crown is often recommended after a root canal treatment to protect and restore the tooth's structure and function.

Deciding on whether a crown is required or not depends on the extent of the tooth damage, the location of the tooth, and the remaining tooth structure.
The root canal procedure removes the infected or damaged pulp inside the tooth and helps to reinforce the remaining tooth structure and prevent the tooth from further damage.
Sometimes, a filling may be sufficient to restore the tooth's function after a root canal without a dental crown.
Your dentist will evaluate and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
HOW TO DECIDE?
Whenever you have undergone root canal treatment, your dentist has advised you to put a dental crown on the tooth after the root canal is finished.
You must be wondering why I should get a dental crown. Can't a tooth live without a dental crown?
You would think that this dentist is forcibly sticking a dental crown on me to make more money.
So, how do you decide whether a dental crown should be installed after root canal treatment or not?
If you are confused and can't decide why you should wear a dental crown, why is it necessary to wear a dental crown, whether it's even required or not, and what if we don't have to wear a dental crown after a root canal treatment? Then read further?

Read this
The tooth is weakened due to the cavity, and after the root canal treatment, the tooth further becomes weaker due to a lack of blood supply and nutrient supply, and thus it cannot bear as much stress as it used to before the cavity or root canal.
We can save the tooth with root canal treatment, but the tooth is not ready to face the mastication forces until it has a dental crown.
But this does not mean that it is mandatory to put a dental crown on every root canal-treated tooth.
Then how do you decide which tooth should be crowned and which tooth should not?
Come listen to the words of a well-known dentist, what did he say about this?
John I Ingle wrote in his book Ingle's Endodontics 7th edition that
by John I Ingle - “dental crowns should be placed on endodontically treated posterior teeth that have occlusal intercuspation with opposing teeth of the nature that places expansive forces on the cusps. Since crowns do not enhance the clinical success of anterior endodontically treated teeth, their use on relatively sound teeth should be limited to situations where esthetic and functional requirements cannot be adequately achieved by other more conservative restoration” Did you understand this?
There are a few technicalities, but if you read this carefully, you will find that John I Ingle in his book Ingle's Endodontics said beautifully that does tell you clearly which root canal-treated tooth should be crowned and which root canal tooth not.
Let me explain-
Understand in simple terms
If RCT is done on any of the posterior teeth, i.e., 2 premolars and 2 molars, and if they have opposite tooth, then you must get a crown after the root canal, otherwise, due to the force of the opposite tooth, RCT-treated tooth will fracture, and then it will be a waste of your time, money, and the doctor’s time.
And, If the opposite tooth is not present, then you must not get a crown because then there will be no force on the RCT-treated tooth.
If RCT is done on any of the anterior teeth, i.e., canine, lateral incisor, and central incisor. There is no need for a crown on them until and unless there is an esthetic demand by the patient or a functional demand by your teeth (meaning the anterior teeth is severely damaged by caries or very less tooth structure is left), or your dentist.
So.... Now you know... Hurray !!!!!....
Now you don't need the dentist's advice, you yourself can decide on your own.
Little bit about who is John Ingle.

Dr. John I. Ingle is best known as the author of ENDODONTICS, a leading text in the field, first published in 1965. Dr. Ingle obtained his dental degree from Northwestern University in 1942. In 1957 Dr. Ingle standardized the size and shape of endodontic instruments, an international standard that remains today. He has published over 80 scientific articles in the dental literature and has lectured extensively throughout the world.
Now, you can decide on your own without the help of your dentist whether to put the dental crown on your Root Canal treated tooth or not.
